What is Reverse Osmosis?
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a highly effective, pressure-driven water treatment process that forces water through a semi-permeable membrane to remove up to 99% of contaminants, including dissolved solids, bacteria, fluoride, and chemicals. It is widely used for producing potable water, desalinating seawater, and industrial purification. The system, comprising pre-filters, a membrane, and post-filters, ensures safe, clean drinking water.
How RO Technology Works
The RO process involves several stages:
Pre-Filtration
Sediment and activated carbon filters remove larger particles, chlorine, and organic compounds that could damage the RO membrane.
Reverse Osmosis Membrane
Water is forced under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane that allows only water molecules to pass through while rejecting contaminants.
Post-Filtration
Final polishing through carbon filters to remove any remaining taste or odor, ensuring the highest quality water.
Storage and Distribution
Purified water is stored in a clean tank and distributed for use.
